Typically, we prefer to talk about newly CRS Certified events in a timely fashion — and our new Website will allow us to do just that. We do, however, have a bit of housekeeping to do.

With sincere apologies to events that date back to last fall’s Nike Women’s Marathon and Pittsburgh Great Race, we are very pleased to announce the fact that four new running events have joined 31 other road races and triathlons on the growing list of CRS Certified events. In addition, three races that were certified back in the Council’s early days have become recertified.

The newly certified events are the 2010 Richard S. Caliguiri City of Pittsburgh Great Race, 2011 Credit Union Cherry Blossom 10 Mile Run (Silver), 2011 Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle (Silver) and 2011 Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon. The 2010 Nike Women’s Marathon, 2011 LIVESTRONG Austin Marathon (Silver) and 2011 NSKS Run for Food and Shelter (Silver) were recently recertified – a process events must go through every two years to maintain their certified status with CRS.

“These seven races have done more than pledge to be sustainable,” said Catherine Humblet, in a recent press release. “Through their actions, they have demonstrated a commitment to their communities, to the environment and to a great race experience.”

Humblet, who is the Council’s Managing Director, went on to say: “I’m always impressed with the creative things races do to earn innovation credits for sustainable initiatives. The Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle in Chicago used a fleet of bikes as official “vehicles,” while The Flying Pig Marathon in Cincinnati gave recycled medal ribbons to a local non-profit to make bags, purses and pillows to sell as a fund-raiser later in the summer.”

CRS Certified races range in size from the NSKS Run for Food and Shelter in Nashua, New Hampshire, with just 816 runners, to the Lilac Bloomsday Run in Spokane, Washington, with over 55,000 runners.

Here’s a complete listing of CRS Certified events.

Please note: that listing also identifies upcoming events that have applied for CRS Certification, including the Hawk Island Triathlon, AJC Peachtree Road Race and Portland Triathlon.
